Members of the NYPD were honored in Queens on Wednesday as part of the department’s annual Medal Day ceremony.
Two officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, Detectives Wilbert Mora and Jason Rivera, were among those honored today. Both were killed last year when they responded to a domestic call in Harlem.
Officers and other members of the police department who have done significant acts of heroism or the ultimate sacrifice of losing their life were honored at the ceremony.
Friends, family and fellow members of the NYPD filled the venue. NYPD officials say a day like today gives the department a chance to highlight those achievements and sacrifices.
