A man is fighting for his life after a collision between a moped and an SUV in Williamsburg. The crash, which occurred shortly after midnight at the intersection of Lorimer Street and Union Avenue, was captured on surveillance video.
The video shows the moped and the SUV colliding as they both attempted to navigate the four-way intersection. The footage shows both the moped driver and his passenger on the ground following the collision.
According to police, the moped driver is in critical condition at NYC Health + Hospitals King County with head trauma. The 17-year-old driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee stayed at the scene. It is currently unclear if either driver will face charges. Investigators have not yet determined who had the right of way or who may be at fault.
Both vehicles were removed from the scene after remaining in the roadway for several hours. Police are now investigating the crash.
