A rookie police officer accused of fatally shooting an unarmed man in East New York last year is raising money for a new lawyer.
Officer Peter Liang and his mother are reportedly looking for a private attorney, rather than relying on the law firm used by the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association.
Last November during a patrol, investigators say Liang fired a single shot in the dark stairwell of a NYCHA building which ricocheted off a wall and hit 28-year-old Akai Gurley, killing him.
