The NYPD is investigating two possible hate crimes against Hasidic Jews in Williamsburg.
According to police, the most recent attack happened when two Hasidic teenagers were hit with paintballs near Morton Street and Juliana Place at around 10 p.m. Friday. The 13- and 16-year-olds were wearing traditional Hasidic clothing, and were with their 65-year-old grandfather, who was not struck.
The attack follows a previously reported paintball shooting from March 23 involving a 41-year-old Hasidic man who was hit in the shoulder and neck area. That victim was also dressed in Hasidic attire as he walked near Williamsburg West and Hewes Street toward his synagogue, less than a mile away from where the teens were.
Authorities are not connecting the two cases at this time. They urge anyone with information on either one to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
