The new plan highlights the department's mission to fight crime and improve the quality of life in the five boroughs.
The four main goals outlined by New York City Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell are aimed to help the NYPD step forward.
The first goal includes strengthening the workforce by seeking diverse talent and providing effective training. The second goal calls for transforming policing in New York City through a review of department staffing. The third goal mentions engaging community partners.
