NYPD releases video of officers' encounter with machete-wielding man at Grand Central Station

The NYPD released bodycam footage of a fatal police-involved shooting at Grand Central Station.
Police fired at 44-year-old Anthony Griffin after he attacked three people with a machete on April 11 at around 9:40 a.m., according to authorities.
Police say the victims, who were all older, were left with serious injuries.
Detective Ryan Guiffre, assigned to the Transit Bureau working overtime, and his partner, Detective Anthony Manetta, were standing on the mezzanine of the 4, 5, 6, and 7 subway lines at the time of the attacks.
The footage shows the detectives walking toward the platform stairs, where they briefly speak with one of the victims.
A short time later, they are seen confronting Griffin as he walks up the stairs with the machete in his right hand.
Giuffre orders Griffin to drop the weapon multiple times, but he does not. Instead, he walks back down the stairs to the train platform, while Giuffre and Manetta follow.

They again plead with him to drop the machete and say they will get him help.
Griffin continues to hold the weapon and shout while moving toward and away from the detectives.
Griffin can be heard proclaiming, "I am Lucifer," in the video. He then moves toward Giuffre with the machete, its blade facing outward, when Giuffre fires two rounds from his gun, striking Griffin.
Police took Griffin into custody and took him to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where he died.
The first victim of the machete attack before the shooting was an 84-year-old man who was slashed on the 7-train platform. Police say he suffered significant lacerations to his head and face.
The second victim, a 65-year-old man, was attacked on the 4,5,6 train platform. He suffered slash wounds and an open skull fracture.
Authorities say the final victim, a 70-year-old woman, suffered a laceration to the shoulder.
The victims are all expected to make a recovery.
The NYPD Force Investigation Division will continue to investigate the incident.
