Police say a rideshare driver was shot in the head Thursday night in Prospect Heights.
According to investigators, the 52-year-old man was in the driver seat of a black Mercedes van at 10 p.m. on Lincoln Place between Washington and Underhill avenues when he was shot in the head.
Witnesses say they saw two men hop out of the car shortly after and run off.
When officers arrived, they say they found the driver with a gunshot wound to the head. They also found a firearm inside the car. It's not clear who the weapon belongs to and if it was used in this shooting.
News 12's Faith Graham's report from Friday at noon.
The victim was transported to a hospital and was in critical condition as of Saturday night.
The two suspects were still on the loose as of Saturday night.
Neighbors told News 12 they have a group chat for all the tenants in the building. They said the chat was flooding nonstop with messages on Thursday night warning the others to be careful.
“My neighbors from the top floors were like, 'Hey, be careful guys. Don’t go outside,'" one of the building residents told News 12. "There’s something really serious going on outside the building and described the scene which sounded pretty gruesome.”
Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls are anonymous.
