Police say a person is in custody after a man was killed and a woman was injured by gunfire late Thursday night at a playground in Morrisania.

Detectives say the shots were fired at Gouverneur Playground around 11:30 p.m.

When police arrived at the scene, they say they found a man unconscious with a shot in the torso.

He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

They later learned of a second gunshot victim when a 24-year-old woman walked into NYC Health + Hospitals Lincoln with a gunshot wound in her arm.

Detectives say she was walking across the street wearing headphones when she felt pain.

That woman is in stable condition.

Residents in the area say they are sick of the violence in this community.

"I want to stop the violence. It's too violent in this area, all over the city actually," said Earney Baxter.

Police say charges are currently pending for the person under custody.
