With less than 24 hours before former President Donald Trump is arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court, Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell are urging New Yorkers to remain calm, presenting their safety plan for any potential outbreak of violence.
The mayor specifically called out anyone coming from out of town into New York City for the arraignment, specifically mentioning Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene who announced she is traveling to New York to protest Trump’s indictment.
The NYPD’s plan includes heightened police presence in parts of the city, and working alongside local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and the Secret Service to ensure everyone’s safety.
“Our job is to facilitate and safeguard the rights of people to express themselves, and those going about their daily activities,” said Commissioner Sewell. “I will remind everyone that violence and destruction are not part of legitimate lawful expression and will never be tolerated in our city.”
On Tuesday, the NYPD will be closing several streets across the city, especially by Trump Tower and Manhattan Criminal Court. Commissioner Sewell says the closures will happen at various times throughout the day to minimize impact to commuters.
