A man was arrested Saturday after his mother's body was found stuffed inside of a box in a Prospect Lefferts Gardens apartment, the NYPD said.
The 67-year-old woman was identified as Shirley Awer. Her son, 30-year-old David Drummond, was charged with murder in connection to her death.
Police found Awer’s body inside of a box at 179 Linden Blvd. during their investigation.
Neighbors said they believe the victim lived on the fourth floor. Police were spotted going in and out of apartment 4M with bags of evidence lining the hallways.
“They always make a noise upstairs. It was nothing unusual that I thought of,” said downstairs neighbor Denise Ingrim. “It’s very scary and you don’t expect something like this to happen where you live.”
The motive and the events that led to Awer's death were not immediately clear.
The medical examiner is currently working to determine the cause of death.
