NYS Sheriff's Association warns of text scammers who stole $2M in cryptocurrency

The New York State Sheriff's Association says scammers have stollen millions of dollars from people seeking remote work.

The state sheriff's association says the scammers will contact the victims through unsolicited text messages, telling them to open crypto accounts and make deposits under the guise of reviewing products for market data.

The scammers will then tell the victims they will get their investments back plus commission, but the funds are never returned.

One person from New York lost more than $100,000 in cryptocurrency, according to the sheriff's association.

Anyone who receives this kind of message is asked to report it to the attorney general's office.
