A police officer from Brooklyn involved in the fatal 1999 shooting of an unarmed Bronx immigrant has gotten his police-issued gun back.
According to authorities, Amadou Diallo has been mistaken for a rape suspect. They say four officers opened fire as he reached for what they thought was a gun, but later turned out to be his wallet.
All of the officers were acquitted of criminal charges and cleared of any wrongdoing by internal affairs.
Kenneth Boss spent 13 years fighting to get his gun back and is the only one who remains with the NYPD. He currently works at Floyd Bennett Field.
