The MTA transit officer who was slashed by a knife-wielding man in Coney Island has been released from the hospital.
Fillippo Gugliara was greeted by dozens of cheering fellow officers as he was wheeled out of Lutheran Medical Center, accompanied by his father and two sisters, just one day after he was slashed in the neck and shoulder.
The 24-year-old is being hailed a hero for saving an elderly woman during a confrontation with the suspect on West First Street Thursday afternoon, right across from the Q train subway station.
Authorities say Gugliara managed to shoot the suspect twice after being slashed by the suspect's 11-inch hunting knife. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not yet released the identity of the suspect.
