A Bronx official is calling on blasting at the Croton Water Filtration Plant construction site to be stopped.
State Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (D-Bronx) delivered a request for a temporary restraining order at Bronx County Courthouse Wednesday. He wants the Department of Environmental Protection to reconsider its plans to blast at the plant in the Jerome Park Reservoir.
Dinowitz says there is no way to tell how the explosions from the dynamite will impact the surrounding area and community. The assemblyman is particularly concerned about how the blasting could affect the Bronx High School of Science, which sits directly across the street from the construction.
The next step in the case is for a judge to decide whether the community's case has any merit.
