EMS officials say two pedestrians were struck during a multicar crash Wednesday morning in East New York.
The crash occurred near the intersection of Cozine and Pennsylvania avenues just before 10:30 a.m. Witnesses say a woman in a gray Toyota Corolla was making a left turn on Pennsylvania Avenue when she tried to avoid a pedestrian crossing the street.
Instead, witnesses say the Toyota driver swerved, hitting another woman on the sidewalk and a Lincoln Town Car. News 12 is told that a male pedestrian was also struck.
The Toyota driver eventually hit a tree across the street, while the first victim was pinned underneath the car. One bystander says he ran to help the pinned person, pulling them from under the car.
Officials say the two struck pedestrians were taken to Brookdale Hospital, where one is in critical condition and the other is stable. Four other people were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries.
The identities of the victims have not been released.
