New York City is investing in an opportunity to cultivate friendship and peace between police and the people they serve through precinct redesigns, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, other elected officials and NYPD members announced Thursday from the 71st Precinct in Crown Heights.
More than $1 million will be allocated to redesign four Brooklyn precincts -- the 71st, 73rd, 75th and 77th.
Officials say the new looks will make people feel more comfortable when entering a precinct to report a crime, speak with a detective or get information.
Adams and Mayor Bill de Blasio say they want community members to feel safe in their own neighborhoods and that they want the redesigns to have a positive impact citywide.
The Brooklyn borough president's office contributed $1 million for the project. City Council member Alicka Ampry-Samuel's office provided $250,000.
The work is expected to be completed by 2020.
