Mayor Bill de Blasio, other elected officials and community members broke ground Monday on the first YMCA in the northeast Bronx.
Community activists say they've been pushing since 2009 for a YMCA in the area.
The new center will feature two pools, a full-length basketball court, a gymnasium and community space. It will also create jobs.
The project is expected to be completed in 2020.
