Officials: Death at Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward is 5th in DOC custody this year

An inmate died at the Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward this week, according to officials. It's the fifth death in DOC custody this year, according to the Legal Aid Society.
The DOC told News 12 Ricky Howell, 60, was receiving long-term medical care at the Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward since February and died Thursday evening.
Howell was arrested on Staten Island for burglary back in 2021 and sent to Rikers Island.
The medical examiner has yet to determine his exact cause of death.
