Another inmate at Rikers Island died Sunday, according to authorities.

The detainee, who was arrested for alleged felony assault on June 8, was due in court on Monday. Another two were rushed to the hospital.

This death is the ninth in custody for 2022, according to the NYC Department of Corrections. However, advocates are referring to this as the 10th death under the department's custody this year, as one person died shortly after being granted compassionate release due to a suicide attempt earlier this year. 

The Department of Corrections says the incident will be further reviewed by the Department of Investigation.
