A man was struck and killed by a New York City Department of Transportation truck in Bay Ridge on Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.
FDNY officials say that the incident took place at around 3:30 p.m. and that first responders discovered the man dead at the scene.
Surveillance video shows the pedestrian walking in the middle of the crosswalk when a yellow DOT truck comes down the street and strikes him.
Police say that the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene with law enforcement and that no arrests have been made.
Many residents tell News 12 that this isn't the first time they've seen an incident at this intersection. City data shows that at least three people have been injured near this intersection since April.
“I can tell you it’s a dangerous intersection," said concerned Bay Ridge resident Sean McMahon. "Everybody is always trying to jump the lights to make the turn to get onto the expressway.”
Another resident on Dahlgren Place told News 12 her mother was involved in an accident while she was crossing the street back in 2021. Luckily, her mother survived the incident.
“I sent a message to my mom and I said mom I’m so lucky to have you to this day," said Samia Haq. "It could’ve been her too.”
The NYPD has since reopened the street for drivers.
