Police say a missing Crown Heights man with autism who disappeared in Prospect Park was found Thursday.
They say 24-year-old Michael Yam was reported missing yesterday inside Prospect Park near East Drive after visiting the area with residents from his group home. Officials with the home say Yam wandered off once the group headed back to their van to wrap up their trip.
The NYPD deployed a search-and-rescue unit to skim a pond inside the park, but turned up nothing.
Police say Yam was found in Brooklyn Heights, 3 miles from where he was originally thought to have gone missing. He is in good condition.
Yam was spotted walking along Henry Street when a good Samaritan recognized him and called 911. Shortly after, two officers on patrol also spotted Yam and took him to Methodist Hospital to be evaluated.
Officials say it was a difficult search effort because Yam is nonverbal and autistic.
