Officials say a police officer shot a man armed with a knife in East Flatbush.
The shooting happened around 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Officers say they responded to several 911 calls about a male with a firearm and a knife in front of a laundromat at 842 Remson Ave.
When officers arrived on scene, they found a 23-year-old man identified as Devante Presley armed with a knife.
Officials say the officers repeatedly ordered Presley to drop the knife, which was later recovered from the scene.
They say an officer discharged his service weapon and shot Presley three times in the torso after the suspect lunged toward them with the knife in his hand.
Presley was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
A store owner on the street tells News 12 she sees Presley in the area with his mom, who is a frequent customer and friend. She says he has a mental illness.
