Officials: Rikers Island inmate dies after medical episode
The inmate's cause of death is pending and the incident is under investigation.

An inmate at Rikers Island died late Tuesday night while in custody, according to officials.
Authorities say Felix Taveras, 40, was in the Anna M. Kross Correctional Facility when he suffered a medical episode just before midnight Tuesday.
He was taken to an onsite clinic for care then transported to a hospital where he died just before 1:30 a.m.
Taveras was arrested on a burglary charge since March.
His cause of death is pending and the incident is under investigation. This is the 4th death linked to city jails in 2023.
