Elected officials handed out fliers Thursday, hoping they will lead police to the men who brutally beat an Ecuadorian immigrant in Bushwick.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Councilwoman Diana Reyna (D-Williamsburg) met with neighborhood residents on Myrtle Avenue with fliers seeking information in the beating of Jose Sucuzhanay, who police say is on life support after being attacked Sunday.

Police say the assailants shouted anti-gay and anti-Hispanic slurs, then beat Sucuzhanay with a baseball bat and kicked him.

"The best way to send a message that this kind of behavior is not tolerated is for the good people of the community to stand up and do something," Quinn says.

The two elected officials were aided by religious leaders, community activists and the 83rd Precinct in handing more than 1,000 fliers.

Police are asking anyone with information about the beating to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
