The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has identified the woman who was killed in a house fire in West Orange on Sunday.
The first started just before 4:30 a.m. on Sunday at a home on Valley Way.
Authorities say that 66-year-old Cynthia Johnson died after she ran back into the home trying to rescue her cats.
Firefighters pulled her from the home and she was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital to be treated. But she ultimately succumbed to her injuries around 1 p.m. Sunday.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
