Mayor Bill de Blasio and NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton unveiled a neighborhood policing pilot program Thursday in Manhattan.

The "One City: Safe and Fair - Everywhere" plan is designed to help NYPD officers establish better relationships with the community.

De Blasio says the strategy, based on pilot programs already in place in high-crime city precincts, calls for hand-selected, seasoned officers that will be committed to the neighborhoods they police.

Those "neighborhood coordinating officers" will work with neighbors to investigate ongoing problems causing crime and violence. The goal is to develop a relationship with the community, leading to crime tips.

In addition, Mayor de Blasio announced the addition of about 1,300 new officers that will help the neighborhood officers stay focused on the community.

The pilot program will be in place at four precincts in Manhattan and Queens. Officials hope to expand the program throughout the city.
