Police: Driver slams into police cruiser responding to Belt Parkway crash, 1 dead
A man was killed this morning when a car crashed into a police cruiser responding to a previous accident on the Belt Parkway.
Police determined a BMW i8 traveling in the left lane of the westbound Belt Parkway rear-ended a Honda Pilot also traveling in the left lane. The 55-year-old female driver of the Honda and the 35-year-old male driver of the BMW remained at the scene.
Police say the responding officers' vehicle was stopped in the left lane with its emergency lights activated when a speeding 2019 Nissan Rogue collided with the rear of the police vehicle and struck the 35-year-old male who was standing next to his car.
The collision sent the 35-year-old male over the center guardrail and onto the roadway of the eastbound lane of the Belt Parkway. Police identified the deceased as Peter Tse, of Brooklyn.
The 35-year-old female driver of the Nissan Rogue, identified as Audrey Edmond, of Brooklyn, remained at the scene and was taken into custody. Edmond is being charged with manslaughter and driving while intoxicated, among other charges.
All lanes were closed between exits 14 and 15 eastbound on the Belt Parkway due to the situation. The Belt Parkway has since reopened.
