The organization God's Love We Deliver marked a milestone Wednesday by packing its 30 millionth meal for New Yorkers in need. It was all part of National Volunteer Week.
Broadway actors Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster also came out to help the organization cook and package meals.
"My family has volunteered here, and it is such a thrill that this exists and it is thriving," Jackman said.
The co-stars praised the organization for their work to provide 10,000 meals a day, no matter the circumstances.
"From Day 1 of the pandemic, they went into overdrive, making sure everyone who needed their help was attended to, and they delivered more meals and helped more New Yorkers than ever," Foster said.
Workers and volunteers in the kitchen chopped vegetables, seasoned fish and packed the food.
The milestone meal will be going to a 90-year-old Manhattan resident and longtime client.
The organization says it's been serving New Yorkers in need since the start of the AIDS epidemic in 1985.
Last year, they said they delivered more than 2.6 million meals to nearly 10,000 seriously ill New Yorkers and their families.
Workers said it wouldn't be possible without the dedication of their volunteers and volunteers added that this gives them a sense of community and belonging.
