The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is joining the investigation into the death of a worker at a wastewater treatment plant in Sheepshead Bay Wednesday.
Michael Buffamante, a Department of Environmental Protection contractor working for Welkin Mechanical, fell into a 35-foot-deep treatment tank and died, despite efforts by FDNY divers to save him.
Rescuers pulled him out after about eight minutes underwater.
OSHA says the investigation may take up to six months.
The DEP issued a statement sending thoughts and prayers to Buffamante's family, friends and colleagues.
