Outdoor dining sheds saved Brooklyn restaurants during the pandemic. But now, in less than two weeks, restaurants will be forced to get rid of those roadway structures or face fines up to $1,000.
Restaurants that have applied and paid for an outdoor dining license with the Department of Transportation will be allowed to continue their sidewalk outdoor set ups.
Those that have not applied will not be allowed to have any outdoor dining structures.
“In order to follow what the City Council voted, we all have to remove all sheds by Nov. 29. Community also said we want to continue having the sidewalk program which goes a year around," said DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez.
The commissioner added that as restaurants remove their roadway sheds, they must follow the New York City Department of Sanitation rules for disposal.
