Over 3,000 illegal guns were removed from New York City streets and destroyed on Thursday to keep residents safer.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch and those impacted by gun violence all took part in the removal.
“The numbers don’t lie,” said Adams. “We have removed over 21,000 illegal guns off our streets, and more than 1,600 of them have already been removed this year.”
The 3,575 illegal guns were placed on a conveyer belt and then into a gun chipper to be destroyed.
