A goat rescued by Wilton officers and firefighters has been claimed and released, police say.

The police department posted a picture of the goat in the backseat of a cruiser over the weekend.

Police made light of the rescue and search for the lost animal’s owner – calling it an “arrest” of a “suspicious suspect” that they found “trespassing” near Danbury Road and Ridgefield Road.

Police edited their original post with an update that they found the owner and subsequently released the “suspect” from custody of the animal shelter.

They say the animal was mostly cooperative during the investigation.
