P.S. 58 in Brooklyn reopened today after a temporary closure Monday due to a COVID-related staff shortage.
Principal Katie Dello Stritto sent out an email Sunday telling parents it was not safe to open, and the Department of Education had not given a clear response as to the COVID-19 staffing crisis ongoing in the city.
The DOE claims that it was working to provide support Monday. The department says it has taken the measures to work with DOE staff members to make sure school doors stay open.
A parent shared an email sent to parents this morning by the principal saying the school was fully staffed Tuesday and that the school leadership team came up with a plan during this difficult time.
Several parents told News 12 they back the principal's decision to close the school Monday even without DOE permission if she felt it wasn't safe enough to open.
