Thousands came out to Church Avenue on Sunday to celebrate 49 years of Guyana's independence.
The march and rally is also in support of an election that took place in Guyana on May 11, when an alliance between two groups - A Partnership for National Unity and the Alliance for Change - took a majority of the seats in the National Assembly.
Many parade attendees were optimistic about new President David Granger, who was sworn into office on May 16.
They said Granger represents unity, harmony and the change for which the country has been fighting for decades.
