A proposal to add a charter school to Bushwick's I.S. 383 was met with protests from parents, students and union members Tuesday.
The Department of Education wants to add the Achievement First Bushwick Charter School to I.S. 383/Philippa Schuyler Middle School for the Gifted and Talented in September. The DOE claims there's enough space for everyone. But parents and educators worry the original school will suffer.
"The wonderful science project and labs that we have in the building, those will not be in existence anymore because there will not be space," said Kathleen Sharko, of the United Federation of Teachers.Parents and educators plan to keep protesting until their voices are heard.
