Parents rallied outside of a Bronx elementary school after a rumor broke out that the school may be selling the property to developers.
On Tuesday, concerned parents and students joined together outside of St. Gabriel school in hope to stop any potential deal and express their concerns about the rumor.
Some of the parents at the rally are alumni of St. Gabriel's and say they chose to send their children there to get the same education they did. Some students were heartbroken as they were expressing their thoughts about the school potentially closing.
“I’m a retired police officer and firefighter, my new role now is to be a class dad for my boys,” said one father. “I specifically stayed in New York for my boys to go here because the stats are great for kids. But if this school closes, I’m putting my house on the market.”
Parents and students say that this school is a parish and a community, and that they will not let it be taken from them without a fight.
News 12 has reached out to the Archdiocese of New York for a comment on these parents’ concerns and is awaiting a response.
