It?s the Fourth of July, so rangers in Prospect Park say they are going easy on barbecuing infractions that are normally enforced.
?As long as they're away from the tree lines, they can make their barbecue pretty much anywhere,? says Damon Revells, who works at the park.
And that is exactly what many Brooklyn residents did while enjoying their holiday.
?They should just let everybody come and have a good time,? says Meeka Palmer, who has been barbecuing for more than 20 years. ?Just as long as they keep everything in order, there shouldn't be any problems.?
Park rangers say that with thousands of people in the park, maintaining a safe environment is what?s most important.
To that end, rangers say they patrol the park to ensure that families don?t do things such as dump used coal near tree stumps.
