Passionate supporters are fighting to save the beloved Kentile Floors sign in Gowanus.

Scaffolding surrounds the sign, which is located on Ninth Street between Second Avenue and the Gowanus Canal, as workers prepare for possible demolition. A number of Park Slope residents formed the "Save the Kentile Floors Sign" committee in an effort to prevent the iconic sign from being torn down.

With the rapid change of Gowanus and new businesses moving to the neighborhood, some say it's even more important to preserve the sign as a link to Brooklyn's past. City Councilman Brad Lander says the sign is part of the historic, industrial and manufacturing character of the neighborhood. He says he has appealed to the owner of the building where the sign sits.
