Some Brooklyn commuters want the MTA to make changes after last week's chaotic roll out of the new Long Island Rail Road schedules.
The group Passengers United is calling for the MTA to add back some direct trains to the Atlantic Terminal during peak hours. This demand comes after a week of chaos at Jamaica Station where Brooklyn commuters had to transfer and face long delays.
The MTA says that the new full service to Grand Central Madison is designed to reduce crowding at Penn Station and save up to 40 minutes for some commuters. However, Passengers United says the new LIRR service is unfair to riders who commute to and from Atlantic Terminal.
To fix the issue, the petitions ask the MTA to divert two trains on every branch from Grand Central to Atlantic Terminal in the morning and evening rush hours.
It also calls for train conductors to make announcements about connections and address concerns about the elevators in Jamaica Station, which they say makes the commute difficult for people with disabilities.
The MTA has told News 12 that they plan to make a number of improvements on the LIRR service to Brooklyn.
