A massive water main break in Paterson is disrupting service for residents and businesses across the city and surrounding towns.
The 30-inch pipe burst behind Hinchliffe Stadium, prompting a boil water advisory citywide.
Some residents woke up to dry taps, while others reported brown water flowing from their faucets.
Officials say the advisory applies to drinking, cooking, brushing teeth and washing dishes.
The mayor adds that two other minor water main breaks are also affecting residents in the Third and Fourth Wards. Neighboring towns including Prospect Park and North Haledon are also affected.
The city's Office of Emergency Management says repairs could take until Saturday.
Once service is restored, the Passaic Valley Water Commission says you may still see discoloration. Run the cold water until it clears.
Bottled water distribution will take place at Hinchliffe Stadium.
