Residents in Bushwick hoping for safer streets had their prayers answered as city officials unveiled the new pedestrian plaza.
The plaza is located near the Myrtle-Wyckoff subway stop and was completed in October. A New Jersey couple helped champion the improvement after their daughter, Ella Kottick, was killed by an MTA bus in 2013.
"This is all new to us, we had no idea what we were doing, but we felt compelled to make sure this area became safer," says Judith Kottick.
Residents say they are happy for the change but wonder why it took so long.
Meantime, the Kotticks are trying to get the road traffic safety program Vision Zero fully funded and street safety cameras put in every school zone.
