A man was struck and killed while crossing an infamous downtown Brooklyn street Friday.
Police say a Honda Accord struck John Mortenson around 1:45 p.m. at Adams and Tillary streets. The accident, which tied up traffic for hours as officers combed the scene, left many witnesses stunned. "He was thrown and he fell on the floor and he was dead ... They gave him CPR, but he never recovered," said Gilbert Figueroa.
Mortenson was pronounced dead on arrival at Long Island College Hospital.
Area residents complain the fatality is not the first at the intersection, and they believe it won't be the last. One person said traffic police sometimes motion cars through the intersection when pedestrians have the right of way.
