Safety concerns continue to mount at the busy intersection of Metropolitan and Union avenues, where pedestrians, drivers and cyclists often navigate chaotic conditions.
The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) has made safety improvements in recent years, including installing a Leading Pedestrian Interval to give pedestrians a head start before vehicles turn and modifying traffic signals to align with the citywide speed limit reduction to 25 mph.
Despite these changes, residents and commuters say the area remains dangerous, with frequent reports of close calls, speeding vehicles, aggressive turns and jaywalking.
The DOT says it is exploring additional upgrades to improve safety at the intersection, but many in the community are calling for more immediate action to address the ongoing risks.
