News 12 is getting an inside look at what it's like to raise a child with autism.
Single mother Donna Hills has a 5-year-old son with pervasive developmental disorder, which is a form of autism that can make it even more difficult to socialize and communicate. However, the dynamic duo gets through each day together as a team sticking to a routine.
Matthew starts some days with a private mixed martial arts lesson in Williamsburg, which his mom says helps him focus and follow instruction. The two even stay active by tackling the playground in McCarren Park and baking at home.
"Whatever he wants to be, it's my goal to work at it, to get him to be," Hills says. "If he wants the moon, I will shoot for the moon."
