A tribute for a fallen NYPD detective will be held on the ballfield at Plainedge Park for the next few days.

North Massapequa native Brian Moore was shot and killed in the line of duty on May 2, 2015.

He was promoted to detective after he died. The Plainedge High School alumni was 25.

The annual Brian Moore Baseball Tournament was set up to give scholarships in his name. This will be the eighth annual tournament.

Raymond Moore, Brian Moore's father, says his son even played on the same field when he was younger.

"I can remember coming down here and watching Brian play right on this field when he was in junior high school," Raymond Moore says.

Brian Moore's fellow first responders, people he grew up with in Nassau County, and children in the community all come out to the event.

There are over 60 teams taking part in the tournament. Players and coaches say they are taking part to honor Brian Moore's memory.

"Not about the wins and losses, it's about what Brian meant to the community and what the game of baseball meant to him," says Brian Redash, coach of Dodgers Nation.

Raymond Moore says it means a lot to him to see the loyalty and support for his son and other first responders.

He says it's always painful remembering his son on days like these, but he is happy that his memory is being kept alive.

"It's a good thing that we're doing this, so that's what helps me to get through it," Raymond Moore says.

Organizers say 100% of the money raised goes to support scholarships in the Plainedge community.
