Bronx women playing on opposing teams got a shot at the NCAA women's basketball championship Tuesday when Rutgers battled the University of Tennessee.
Lady Scarlet Knight Kia Vaughn carried her team, racking up 20 points and 10 rebounds. Rutgers' Judith Brittany Ray, who graduated from Aquinas High School, had a relatively quiet night. She played only 15 minutes and missed three shots. The star of the night was Lady Vol and former St. Raymond star Shannon Bobbitt. She helped the Vols hold on to their 11-point lead at halftime. She nailed a three-pointer and scored 13 points.
The Lady Vols walked off the court with their seventh national title, winning 59-46. Bobbitt is the first NCAA Division I women's champ from the Bronx.
