A 22-year-old man is dead and three others are hurt after a single-car crash on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn overnight.
Police say it happened around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday near the Knapp Street exit in Sheepshead Bay. Investigators say the driver of a white Lexus lost control, veered off the road, and crashed. He was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn, where he was pronounced dead.
Three passengers were also in the car:
  • A 20-year-old man with a broken leg was taken to Maimonides Medical Center
  • Another 22-year-old man with minor injuries was also taken to Maimonides
  • A third man with two broken legs was transported to Kings County Hospital
Highway patrol officers were on the scene for hours, and traffic on the Belt Parkway was backed up as the investigation continued.
A motorcycle was also removed from the scene, but police have not said if it was involved in the crash.
Witnesses told News 12 they saw the Lexus speeding before it lost control. “The car looked like it got a blowout, and it flipped and went into a tree,” one witness said. “The guy was bleeding out and they gave him a blanket.”
Police say this was a single-car crash, and no other drivers were hurt.
