The NYPD is trying to find the person who they say shot an 11-year-old boy in the arm Monday night in Ocean Hill.

Police say the young boy was shot in the left arm at 324 Howard Ave. after 11 p.m.

Fantaysa, 18, says she was sitting in her apartment when she heard gunfire. She says she opened her door to see the injured boy.

"I carried him inside the house, then I wrapped my sweater around his arm, and then I was just holding him," Fantaysa said.

She says she quickly called 911 and then carried the boy downstairs. She sat with him on the stoop as he bled in her arms.

"I was just praying over him," she said.

Police say the boy was eventually rushed to the hospital where he is now recovering.

Officers could not confirm how or why he was shot. There was a police presence at the building throughout the night into Tuesday morning.

Other residents in the building tell News 12 they heard a lot of commotion and children running around prior to the shooting. It's unclear who pulled the trigger.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call police.
