A 14-year-old is accused of throwing away a gun during a police case in Paterson.

Officials say officers were monitoring a car near Park Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard when they saw a handgun exchanged inside the car.

Police say the driver and passenger got out and ran away when the officers pulled the car over.

Investigators identified the driver as a 14-year-old. They say he threw a semi-automatic pistol on the ground while running away. Two other firearms were found inside the car.

The teen, whose name was not released due to his age, is now facing weapons charges.

The passenger of the car is still on the loose.
