The NYPD says a 15-year-old student was fatally shot Wednesday afternoon in McLaughlin Park in Brooklyn.  
NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig said the victim was in the hospital in critical condition after being shot in the abdomen. Police confirmed on Wednesday night that the victim has died as a result of his injuries.
Police told News 12 that the victim was a student at Brooklyn Lab Charter School, where he was dismissed at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. 
The victim was sitting with two girls on a bench in the park when two suspects approached him and a fistfight broke out. One of the suspects revealed a firearm before shooting the victim in the abdomen. Both suspects were wearing all black with black ski masks.  
The NYPD says there were at least 30 other people in the park at the time of the incident. Two teenage girls were taken to the 84th Precinct to be questioned on the incident.
